In training the focus is on 5
basic skills (Mobility, Tempo,
Bending, Transitions and Lateral
work). The quality of the work
should tie into the basic
skills-Quality being Suppleness,
Strength, Self Carriage, Balance,
Impulsion and eventually
Collection. Quality is something
achieved with consistent
schooling over some years for
horse and rider to master these
principles. Melissa has trained
many of her students' horses to
a higher level. A spell of
professional training can be the
helping hand you need to set up
a young dressage horse for the
rest of his career, or to help
leapfrog from one level to the
